EV Charge leads are an essential electric car accessory for all drivers on Australian and New Zealand roads of Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) such as Mitsubishi Outlander, Volvo XC90 T8, and pure battery electric vehicles (BEV) such as the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Ioniq and the Renault ZOE. By having a set of EV charge leads in the boot of your car, you will open up access to the growing number of public Type 2 Mennekes socket EV chargers.

Type 1 Electric Car Charger Cables - For Outlander PHEV, BMW i3, Nissan LEAF

Most early model electric cars such as the BMW i3Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and Mercedes Benz C350e PHEV have the J1772 (Type 1) EV charge connection. The type 1 ev connector has a maximum charge rate of 7kw but there may be onboard limitations. For example, the Outlander PHEV can only charge at 3.3kw as does the Nissan LEAF but certain vehciles such as the BMW i3 and some later model Nissan LEAFs can charge at up to 6.6kw.

Type 2 Electric Car Charger Cables - For Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Kona, Ioniq and Nissan LEAF, Renault Zoe

More modern and Euro vehicles such as the Tesla Model S, X and Model 3Hyundai Ioniq, Hyundai Kona and Renault Zoe. Electric cars(EVs) will need the Type 2 or Mennekes EV charge lead. The type2 cable is capable of charging at up to 22kw on three phase though again there may be some on board limitations. For example the Jaguar I-Pace can only charge at 7kw on AC which is the same story with both the Hyundai Ioniq and Kona in Australia. We recommend you buy 22kw Type 2 ev cables as the price differential is only marginal.
